This year the tourism starts a movement to improve the sustainability and the environment, and it does it through the #Tourism17 campaign.
In the year of the development for sustainability, it is expected that all the tourism sector join together to improve this matter.
Besides, September 27 is the World Tourism Day and at the Hotel Barcelona Princess we celebrate it by making a 360 degree turn to promote a responsible tourism.
The #Turism17 campaign is very important the Barcelona Princess, since for years we have been a hotel that promotes sustainability.
We have a project called 360º Princess & You in which we do several actions to contribute to social responsibility, such as working with the fair trade of food or promoting energy savings among others.
Our clients and staff also feel committed to this cause, and in this case is our partner Marina, from the reservations department, who joins to this sustainable cause of #Tourism17 and turns for a healthy life and wellness.
Marina loves physical wellbeing and on the last year she participated in the Barcelona Triathlon, she liked it and this year she repeats. This campaign is of great importance for our hotel chain in Barcelona, including the Hotel Negresco Princess, as it is a common cause that promotes sustainability and benefits us all, so we encourage you to join the challenge.

On the next 8 of October the Barcelona Triathlon will be held in the city, it is the largest in Spain and one of the greatest in Europe.
The triathlon in Barcelona is an important sporting event that is held every year to promote the practice of sport, and this time has an added value, as 25 years have passed since the amazing Olympic Games in Barcelona 92.
Last Wednesday 20th of September the Barcelona Triathlon 2017 was presented at the Olimpic Sport Museum, which was attended by a great Spanish athlete who participated in those memorable games of 92, Abel Anton. This year, Abel will be the representative of the Banco Santander team along with Mireia Belmonte and Miguel Indurain.
At the Hotel Barcelona Princess, official hotel of the Barcelona Triathlon, this year we’ll repeat our assistance at the Barcelona triathlon with our great #BarcelonaPrincessTeam.
In this year’s triathlon there will be different distances and modalities so that everyone can participate in it.
As a novelty this year, the Barcelona Triathlon 2017 aims to increase female participation so that there are more women on the starting line of the Triathlon and crossing the finish line.
That is why the campaign has begun with the hashtag #mujerestriatletas, in which Ana Pérez (@ annita.smiles) or Sara Loehr (@saraloehr), among others, participate.
In the case of the team of the Barcelona Princess, Marina one of our staff members is a woman triathlete and this year she repeats in the triathlon of Barcelona.
The Barcelona Triathlon is also solidary and this year joins the investigation of Lateral Amyotrophic Sclerosis (ALS) a disease that causes muscle weakness and atrophy.

She has lived in several countries, but finally Miriam has come back to the great city of Barcelona, we show you a little bit of her interesting life at this hotel at the centre of Barcelona.
Where are you from, Miriam?
I am from Barcelona but I have also lived in Montreal and Dublin for four years.
They are very different cities to Barcelona, in Montreal there were temperatures of -20 degrees, so there were incredible underground cities. That weather was really cold and there is nothing better than the Mediterranean climate of Barcelona.
What do you do at the hotel?
I am the head of reception, a function that I manage together with Laya and our great team at Hotel Negresco Princes.
Miriam, how long have you been here?
I have been working at this Hotel in Barcelona – Hotel Negresco Barcelona – since January 2017.
What do you like most about your job?
I have worked in several departments of different hotels, in the bar, in the reception, etc. I can say without a doubt that what I like the most is to have contact with the clients.
Do you want to tell an anecdote about your experiences at the Hotel Negresco Princess?
On one occasion a client was preparing to ask his girlfriend to marry him. He showed us the ring and we prepared a place for the great occasion in our terrace, La Terrazza, which without a doubt is a romantic place in Barcelona thanks to its incredible views.
Then they left the hotel and when they returned they took a big surprise to see that the room was decorated with red petals.
They were delighted and it’s a nice memory for us.
From your day to day how do you practice or contribute to the hotel’s social and environmental responsibility plan?
From the hotel we do recycling and separation of waste and of course we try to use paper as little as possible.
For example, in the day of collection of waste in Collserola or in the visit to the Cottelengo Foundation of Father Alegre, that is the social cause of this year for these two hotels in Barcelona.
And soon you will see me spinning for the campaign #Tourism17 just like Jairo, Director of the Hotel.
What is your favorite place in the city of Barcelona? And at the hotel?
Las Ramblas! When I lived in Dublin and came to Barcelona on vacation, I visited it along with my family. It was a kind of ritual to take a walk in the city.
My favorite place in the hotel is the reception.
-If you came to visit the city, what could not you miss seeing or doing in Barcelona?
I could not miss the Sagrada Família and Parc Guell by Antonio Gaudí. But I also recommend the FC Barcelona Camp Nou and the amazing views of Tibidabo.

We have #OzoneHeroe beacuse thanks to the control over the facilities by all our staff of the Hotel Barcelona Princess and a rational use by our guests, the electricity consumption per person in 2016 was reduced by 14% with respect by 2015.
This means that it has ceased to emit 164 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. This carbon dioxide saving is equivalent to the photosynthesis of a forest of 8,238 trees during a year.

On the Next 7th and 8th of October, our chef, Pedro Montolio, will participate in the Feria del Queso Artesano Montanejos a cheese fair of the agri-food sector that will be held in Valencia, where the best cheese masters will meet.
The fair is organized by the Tourism Foundation of Montanejos of the Valencian Community, and some lactic companies will participate in it too.
During the cheese fair it will be possible to taste the best flavors, and more than 10.000 tasting are expected along with showccokings with the best chefs.
This year our awarded chef, Pedro Montolio, offers a live showcooking in which the spectators can see directly how a professional of the kitchen works, with the cheese as protagonist.
Through this contest, many cheese creators with delicious flavors will have the opportunity to make a first sample of their products and in this sense; the Chef of the Hotel Barcelona Princess will participate as a jury. This is the reason why it is an event of great importance in which you can discover new lactic products that can surprise anyone.
