Gaudí in Barcelona

Antoni Gaudí, a benchmark in the city of Barcelona, celebrates the 165th anniversary. He was one of the most important architects in the history of architecture.

We want to do a small tribute to the highest representative of Catalan modernism and talk about some of his most representative works.

  • La Sagrada Familia: One of the most famous construction of Catalan modernist architecture, it is one of the most visited buildings in Spain. To enjoy one of the most famous catholic basilicas worldwide you can see this basilica from the panoramic elevators and rooms of the Hotel Barcelona Princess and also from the terrace of the Hotel Negresco Princess.

 

  • Park Güell: World heritage and a clear example of Gaudí’s ability to create an exceptional experience, with gardens and architectural elements.
  • Casa Batlló: Right in Passeig de Gracia, one of the most emblematic walks of the city is another important works of Gaudí, Casa Batlló. You can visit it from the Negresco Princess, hotel in the center of Barcelona.

 

The essence and magic of this Catalan representative breathe all over the city, giving everyone who walks their streets exclusive and essential places to visit. You can also admire:

  • Casa Milà: Also known as “La Pedrera“, another beautiful element in the city and that is also located in the Passeig de Gràcia.
  • Palau Güell: Located near the harbor and the seafront of the city, it is a magnificent example of domestic architecture in the context of modernism.

The legend of Sant Jordi, the dragon and the princess.

The most romantic day in Barcelona where roses and books are exchanged is coming.

April 23 is Sant Jordi (St. George), a celebration that is considered the Sant Valentin Catalan. In this tradition the streets of Barcelona wear red roses and you can buy books in the bookstalls in the streets like La Rambla.

The book was added to this celebration because Abril 23th is also celebrated the World Book Day.

But behind the princess, the knight, the dragon and the rose there is a legend: The Legend of Sant Jordi.

Barcelona is also music

Barcelona is the perfect setting that has inspired many singers and artists to include the city in their lyrics or in their videos.

There are many examples. There are songs in all genres, languages, from different moments of Barcelona and artists of different nationalities.

Regarding lyrics, one of the most memorable songs is “Barcelona”, a single released by Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury and the catalan operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé. This song was used as a hymn of the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. By the way, this year precisely Barcelona celebrates 25th anniversary of this sport event. (Video)

Also Barcelona is mentioned in the Soundtrack of the film ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’. A film written and directed by Woody Allen and starring by Javier Bardem, Scarlett Johanson and Penélope Cruz. The song is called “Barcelona” and the musicians responsible are Giulia and the Tellarini. (Video)

Shakira is another singer who has mentioned Barcelona in the lyrics of her songs as the song “La Bicicleta” with Carlos Vives but she has also chosen Barcelona and Catalonia as settings in their videos as “Loca”, “Empire” where youcan see the mountains of Montesarrat (Video), “Mi verdad” with Maná or her latest single and video “Déja vu” with Princes Royce.

And more recently the British singer Ed Sheeran composed a song about Barcelona that is included in the Deluxe version of his new album “Divide”. Ed Sheerna admits that he loves Barcelona and in his song “Barcelona” includes Las Ramblas, La Sagrada Familia y la Sangría. (Song)

Invasion of Sustainable Colour at La Roca Village

The sustainable movement of Cracking Art has invaded La Roca Village with giant and multicolored animals.

Up to 40 animals of large size and strident colors such as rabbits, snails, frogs and swallows have been setted up in the streets of La Roca Village during the spring and until May 31st.

Crackin Art is an artistic, social and environmental movement. It’s is an initiative from Italy (1993) that now comes to Barcelona but that it has already invaded with its colorful animals another cities such as Bangkok, Moscow, Sydney, Shanghai, Hanoi, Tel Aviv, New York, Paris , Brussels or Milan.

The colorful sculptures of Cracking Art are made of plastic and according to Paolo Bettinardi (Director of the collective Cracking Art) and Kicco (Artist and founder of Cracking Art) it is a sustainable art because they always reuse the same material for the new sculptures.
