The ¨cursas¨ says goodbye to November in Catalonia

Since 1920, when the first street race of 10km was done between Esplugues and the Parc de Montjuïc, Catalonia emerged as the Running quintessential community.

Durante el primer Boom del fenómeno Running toda la provincia de Barcelona, gracias a sus condiciones climatológicas, espacios abiertos y composición geográfica se instauró a la cabeza de los destinos para deporte;pero sobre todo permitió a quienes viven en ella disfrutar de una manera sana e intensa de su ciudad con el surgimiento de las ¨cursas¨.

Las denominadas ¨cursas¨ (en catalán) son carreras populares que, muchas veces, toman sitio en la ciudad recorriendo sus principales calles llenas de personas aficionadas al deporte y la vida saludable. Entre las más conocidas están: La Cursa de La Mercè, La Cursa del Corte Inglés, la Cursa Open de la Jean Bouin y la Cursa de La Dona, entre otras.

At the Barcelona Princess Hotel, as we are a Hotel focussed on sports costumer market and where a big part of our staff are runners, we support all these popular initiatives that will help make Barcelona one of the world referents on sport and sustainability.

This Sunday 31st of November the ¨cursas¨ season closes with popular races throughout Catalonia. In Tarragona, Lleida, Barcelona, Mataró, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Girona… running is the king!

In this occassion we introduce the team, three athletes committed to the sport and healthy living that also are part of the Barcelona Princess Hotel.  
We really want to overcome our last year brand at the Garmin Barcelona and especially to meet the solidarity challenge of raise €1,500 for the Food Bank of Barcelona, we already have €380, there’s a lot of work to do!
On October 5th, Jordi, Joan and Andrea will complete the largest triathlon in Europe for a good cause: bringing food to the neediest people of our city.
We asked our athletes their personal recommendation for swimming, running or cycling in Catalonia. They will surprise you for sure!

Favourite place to swim: Siurana swamp, within the Montsant ranges and near to Prades a place of special beauty surrounded by spectacular scenery. For swimming, walking, photography or simply give joy to the eye!

Favourite place to run: although many times, after work, she runs by the Olympic Port, her favourite place is the Carretera de les Aigües where you can climb with the Vallvidrera funicular; reach to the Tibidabo and enjoy the magical views over Barcelona.

Favourite place to ride: Cap de Creus natural park, one of the places where more ecosystems coexist throughout Catalonia, rocky, ocean and shrub landscape that posed a real challenge for any mountain biker.
